Dorito Taco Salad

Dorito Taco Salad

For millions of families, Tuesdays are for Tacos. However, when eating the same foods each week, it can get boring! Now is the time to liven up those taco nights again. This Taco Salad made with Doritos will put a whole new spin on Taco Tuesday for you and your family!

Taco salads are delicious on their own, however, when you combine everyone’s favorite chips, the salad is even better.

It doesn’t matter what flavor of Doritos that you add, whether it is Nacho Cheese, Rancho or Spicy Nacho, the result is amazing and since it still has all the Taco night ingredients, this is the perfect substitute. And it is far from boring!!

You can add other items if you choose to such as diced onions, green onions. You could also light crush the Doritos to make them more of a bite size for the Salad. Cheese would be another possible addition, as would adding jalapeno peppers.

Is there a certain lettuce I should use?

Most often families use iceberg for the shredded lettuce on tacos. I am a firm believer in mixed greens, I actually prefer them. Iceberg lettuce is fine, but I like a little more oomph to my greens. Feel free to use the lettuce or types of lettuce that you like.

Can I use a different form of meat?

You could use chicken, turkey or sausage. There is never a right or wrong when it comes to the meat you choose for your family.

Why is there Catalina Dressing?

The Catalina blends well in the salad, a little sweet and a little tang could only increase the flavor combinations in this salad.

How can I make this dish healthier?

My first suggestion is to swap out the full fat Sour Cream for Low fat. A second suggestion is to use mixed greens, a combination of Spinach, Kale, iceberg, Romaine. There are usually options already packaged at the supermarket.

Why is there no cheese in the recipe?

The Doritos contain a cheese powder on the outside, I did not add additional cheese, because I did not want the recipe overpowered by cheese. Feel free to add a Mexican blend if you want.
